It is hard sometimes to keep the right perspective when times get tough. There is so much uncertainty in the world today that can make you feel like a fishing bobber in the middle of a typhoon. Sorting your thoughts and feelings out in the middle of the chaos is daunting at best.
In times like these, it is important to remember our foundation. Jesus himself spoke of flood waters rising and beating upon a house in one of His parables . It was the foundation that was the key to the outcome of the storm's effect on the homes in question.
What you base your life upon will, with absolute certainty, determine the end-game of your life. Jesus promised in John 16:33 that "in this world, you will have troubles". This is not a maybe. This is a promise.
So how do you prepare for the "floods" of life? What do you do in order to ensure that everything that you have worked for doesn't come crashing to the ground?
First of all, remember what Jesus promised in the same verse: "I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace….But take heart, I have overcome the world." What He is promising you right here is simply this: "I've got your back!"
Secondly, it's time to do some soul-searching. You absolutely must know why you do what you do. Why do you do it? Who are you doing it for? Do your decisions and lifestyle tie directly back into the purposes of advancing the kingdom of God? If you cannot tie your motivations into being led by God and His word, it's time to rethink what you're doing.
Finally, don't be in a hurry to make drastic decisions. This is the time to bring to remembrance the things that God has put on your heart, the scriptures that He has ignited in your soul, and the times He has confirmed things to be true in your heart.
Hard times have been known to be seasons where God seems to go quiet on us. What are you going to do? It's not the time to panic, it's time to dig your heels into the promises of God, and trust that He will work all things out for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Don't focus on fighting the circumstances, fight the good fight of faith from your knees. Then, and only then, take action as your Heavenly Father leads you. Now is not the time to fight with natural thinking.
Follow Him, and just watch how He pulls everything together. He is worthy of your patience and trust.
